Tips and Tricks For Getting Through This Exam Season

It’s that time of year again, libraries are packed, to-do lists are long, and minds are filled with stress, its exam season! Whether you are a first-year rookie or a four year veteran, exam time is stressful for everyone. It’s important you study and work hard, but don’t forget to take care of yourself. Here are five tips and tricks to help you survive exam season.

  1. Get a good night sleep

I admit sometimes it is tempting to stay up late and finish your notes or your Netflix episode, but getting a good amount of sleep will keep you happy and healthy this exam season. If you sleep at least eight hours every night you will wake up feeling more refreshed and ready for another day of studying. Also, getting a good night’s sleep helps your brain retain information you read that day.

2. Eat Healthy

Eating healthy during exam time is vital because it will keep you energized. In addition, brain food like fruits and vegetables have a variety of academic benefits such as improved memory and work ethic. Eating healthy food will make you feel good about yourself and keep you motivated.

  1. Study Groups

Forming a study group is very beneficial. These benefits include splitting notes, someone else could have remembered facts you forgot about, you can ask questions, and explaining concepts to others that will help with your comprehension. In addition, a study group is filled with people who will motivate you.

  1. Stauffer Library Hack

Imagine walking into Stauffer with all your school work and your coffee in hand, but all the spots are taken! A useful trick is to check the capacity of Stauffer library before you leave your house. This way you know how busy it will be, and whether you will be able to find a seat. This feature can be found at the Queen’s university library website.

  1. Take breaks!

No matter what your parents or teachers say about constantly working, it is important to take small five to ten minute breaks in-between studying. The separation will give your brain a break, and allow you to enjoy sometime to yourself! When you return to studying,  you will feel refreshed and motivated.

There you have it Gaels, follow these tips and you will survive exam season. Study hard and best of luck on all your exams!
