Results of 2018 Special Referendum on JDUC Redevelopment

KINGSTON, ON – Below are the results of the 2018 Special Referendum on JDUC Redevelopment held among AMS members (undergraduate, Medicine, and MBA students at Queen’s). AMS voter turnout was 20.8%


Establishing a JDUC Redevelopment Fee

Do you agree to the establishment of a mandatory, non-reviewable $89 fee to support the redevelopment of the John Deutsch University Centre, to be collected annually commencing in the 2019-2020 academic year?

Approval of this question will result in a University capital contribution of $20,000,000 and additional funding to cover financing costs.”

AMS President Jennifer Li released the following statement:

“We are obviously disappointed that we were unable to secure a student contribution to the JDUC Redevelopment project at this time.

“As this is a tiny margin, my team will take the next few months to understand why undergraduate students voted the way they did. After going through this process we will determine a way forward in consultation with the University.”
