Our mandate is to raise awareness and funds for an organization called Operation Smile. The mission of Operation Smile is to provide free surgeries to children around the world born with cleft lip and palate. Because of this condition children struggle to eat, drink, and smile, and unfortunately many of them will die before their first birthday. We aim to collaborate with students and professors from Queen’s to gain support for and awareness of this medical charity.
Description of Club:
We are a student-run chapter of Operation Smile, an international NGO which provides free surgery to children around the world born with cleft lip and cleft palate. We have an executive committee that is comprised of upper-year students who have been selected before the academic school year begins. We also have a general committee, which involves students who are encouraged to volunteer in various capacities including planning and budgeting, supporting events, gathering sponsors and advertising. Our general committee is a great option for those looking to gain some hands on experience and support a meaningful cause without an extensive time commitment. New members are always welcome!
Operation Smile Queen’s University Chapter has a dual purpose. First, we endeavor to raise awareness of the severity of cleft lip and palate oral malformations and Operation Smile’s mission to fix these facial deformities for children around the world. Second, we want to engage Queen’s students in our cause to raise funds and awareness in order to bolster student initiative not just at Queen’s University but abroad.
