Our goal as a club is to foster creative thinking, solid design practices and quality craftsmanship. While working to foster these objects we also hope to install in our members sound business practice and the importance of team work in a fun and focused environment. In doing so, we hope to create a mini Baja car that can compete against international universities in annual Baja SAE events.
Each year our team designs and builds a single seat off-road vehicle for competition in 3 SAE sanctioned events across North America. We compete against a pool of approximately 150 school teams – some that come from as far away as India – to create the best prototype for a theoretical 4000 unit production run, all using the same 10 hp Briggs & Stratton engine. The best car is determined by three days of competition including: design presentation & report, cost report, sales presentation, brake test, technical inspection, acceleration test, hill climb, maneuverability test, suspension test, and finally the highly prestigious and rigorous endurance event. Our team is comprised of a talented group of students who are enthusiastic about design and manufacturing. We are mainly mechanical engineers, but anyone is welcome and we are always looking for members. If you want to have some fun and learn something new, come down to the DAPR in the basement of McLaughlin Hall any time!
