A Letter From The Judicial Affairs Office
To whom it may concern,
We are writing to inform you that the Judicial Affairs Office has received the complaints made by Leo Yang on February 8th, 2024.
Under sec 9.2.4 of the AMS Constitution, the Judicial Affairs Office is empowered to investigate allegations of policy infringement on behalf of the Society, any member of the Society or any member of the public and bring them to the attention of the AMS Judicial Committee, which is the highest adjudicating panel of the AMS. The policy and procedures which govern Judicial Affairs Office investigations are outlined in the Policy Infringement Protocol (PIP) and Non-Academic Misconduct Policy and are linked at the end of this statement.
While the Judicial Affairs Office, composed of the Judicial Affairs Manager and Judicial Affairs Deputies, is administratively part of the Internal Affairs Office, the JAO maintains independence over operations and investigations within the AMS. Additionally, the Judicial Committee, composed of 5 members, 1 Vice-Chair and 1 Chair (9.2.7 AMS Constitution) is likewise independent (9.2.8 AMS Constitution).
Please be aware that the Judicial Affairs Office takes complaints very seriously and an investigation is underway. However, at this time, details of the investigation are confidential and will not be disclosed nor discussed.
If anyone has concerns and/or information that you believe should be considered, please email . Additionally, we would like to remind everyone of the terms relating to complaints and appeals of election results:
- Complaints regarding violations of AMS Election Policy by campaigning teams: If you believe that a campaigning team violated AMS Election Policy, complaints can be submitted using the form on the AMS website.
- Complaints or disputes of election results: Campaigning organizations may request clarifications on election results. Such requests should be submitted through a written notice to the Judicial Affairs Manager, and Chief Electoral Officer, .
- Complaints regarding policy infringement: If you are aware of any other known or suspected policy violations, you can notify the Judicial Affairs Office by emailing .
Please note, to uphold the integrity of the AMS elections, pursuant to 9.2.3(iv) of the AMS Constitution, the Judicial Committee Chair in consultation with the Judicial Affairs Manager, have waived all deadlines prescribed in the policy. The new deadline for all appeals and complaints is Sunday, February 11th at 11:59 PM.
