What is Walkhome?Walkhome is an entirely student-run safety service under the AMS. Each night Walkhome staff members (who are fellow Queen’s students) form multiple teams (consisted of mixed gender) to walk fellow students anywhere they need to go safely & comfortably! Best of all, they don’t wear uniforms and it’s entirely free! How can I use Walkhome?There are three ways you can use Walkhome! The first is by dialling 533-WALK anywhere within an hour radius of campus and we’ll send a team to come pick you up! The second is by swinging by the lower JDUC kiosk (where we set up each night) and asking the Night Coordinator on shift for a walk. The third way is if you ever see any team walking the streets (identifiable by their bright blue tags and radios) you’re more than welcome to ask them for a walk! When can I use Walkhome?Walkhome is open every night! Our hours of operation are from dusk until 2:00am during week days (Sunday – Wednesday), and dusk until 3:00am between Thursday –Saturday. If you’re ever unsure just dial 533-WALK and ask (we’d love to hear from you)! Where can I use Walkhome?Our official boundaries are as far west as West Campus, as far east as Ontario Street, as far north as York Street, and as far south as Lake Ontario! However, it’s probably a lot easier if you just remember that we’ll go just about anywhere within an hour radius of campus. Additionally, walks do not have to originate from campus; we’ll go off campus to get you! Is Walkhome only for Safety?Not at all! While safety is an important aspect of Walkhome, many people use Walkhome just for some friendly faces to talk to while on their journey. We’re great with directions, providing umbrellas in the rain, helping students study, or walking in complete silence; it’s entirely up to you! Additionally, we don’t wear any uniforms so no one will even know you’re using the service! Can I work for Walkhome?Absolutely! Walkhome will be hiring 30-50 first year students, for part-time paid (minimum wage) employment. Applications can be found inside the AMS office, and will be due by September 30th.
