TEDxQueensU is an annual TEDx licensee of the global organization TED. TED stands for technology, entertainment, design and is a non-profit organization devoted to it’s mantra of ‘ideas worth spreading’. The organization holds two international annual conferences at which speakers of all disciplines providing inspiring and often jaw-dropping talks on their ideas, innovations, accomplishments and outlooks. In the spirit of sharing ideas, TED provides Universities and communities the opportunity to put together their own TED-like event, with the added ‘x’ denoting an independently organized conference. Our team is comprised of Queen’s students who hope to use this widely embraced, recognized and utilized format to encourage innovation and sustained action within our community. We particularly look to showcase the talents and accomplishments of those associated with Queen’s University. Our speakers in the past have included renowned motivational speakers, lauded academics and revered pioneers many of whom are Queen’s students, faculty, staff and alumni.
TEDxQueensU is a student run conference aimed at bringing together progressive and unique pioneers, leaders, and collaborators from our community and beyond. We look to provide a platform from which ideas can be shared, action can be inspired, and discussion can be sparked. By identifying a slate of speakers form a variety of fields, and attracting a diverse audience of students and community members, we hope to stimulate curiosity and inspire the continued exchange of solutions and opinions. Additionally, we hope to celebrate the Queen’s and Kingston community for its dynamic thinking and esteemed achievements through creative TED Talk presentations, and innovation sessions.
