The Academic Affairs Commission (AAC) is mandated with representing the academic interests of undergraduate students to the university administration and the federal and provincial governments. If students, either individuals or groups, have academic concerns, the commission is responsible for ensuring that those concerns are addressed. The commission has a series of committees that seek to educate and inform students on topics such as financial aid and the funding of post-secondary education. We promote excellence in teaching through our AMS teaching awards and by encouraging student-faculty interaction outside the normal classroom setting.

Orientations Week, Homecoming, Queen’s Model Parliament-these are some of the events that will be the landmarks in a student’s life at Queen’s. Primarily an events-based commission, responsible for organizing all of the special events that make university life so memorable, the Campus Activities Commission is incredibly active at Queen’s. It’s a great place to get involved with social activities, volunteer and leadership opportunities at Queens.

The Commission of Internal Affairs (CIA) oversees matters concerning AMS Assembly (the highest legislative student body at Queen’s), the AMS Judicial Committee (the student administered non-academic discipline tribunal), the Prosecutor’s Office, elections and referenda, and the administration of over 200 AMS-affiliated clubs and extracurricular organizations. Whenever you cast a ballot, visit Clubs Nights, or drop by the McLaughlin Room of the JDUC on various Thursday nights to catch an Assembly meeting, you are witnessing the CIA in action. To become involved or to if you have any questions, swing by and visit.

The MAC has two important and overarching roles. First, we act as advocates for Queen’s students in the municipal sphere. We lobby various levels of government on everything from garbage and recycling to property standards to enforcement of the Fire Code. Second, we facilitate opportunities for students to give back to the Greater Kingston community as volunteers. Through this role of the MAC, Queen’s students can do anything from raising money for the United Way to tutoring local highschool students in subjects with which they have difficulty. The success of our Commission depends on the contribution of dedicated, motivated volunteers - so if you’re willing to devote your talents and gain valuable experience relevant in anything from law and social work to public-interest advocacy, this is the place for you. Come to the MAC with your questions and concerns about everything from landlord/tenant issues and delivery of municipal services to the best places to volunteer in the Kingston community and requesting free property inspections.

The Social Issues Commission is committed to creating educational campaigns designed to help those historically disenfranchised. We seek to create awareness and understanding of our differences while maintaining our ability to be equal as peers. We support the expression and celebration of these differences. We also hope to foster relevant and cogent dialogue about various socio-cultural issues that face Queen’s students. The commission is available for all students who take an interest in or would like advice about various issues. All students are invited to access the resources that the commission and the AMS have to offer.
